Pulpitis or plantar dermatosis Causes and Treatment

Pulpitis is the localization of dermatitis to the pulp of the fingers or toes. This results in longitudinal fissure wounds of the pulp sometimes very painful and uncomfortable.

Causes of pulpitis

Pulpites are often aggravated by the environment: cold, humidity, handling of caustic household products, handling of plants (tulip, hyacinth, narcissus …) or caustic foods (tomato, garlic, crustaceans …)

Fungal infections

It is a colonization of the hand by dermatophytes whose leader is Trichophyton rubrum , often giving floury and dry hands.

Syphilis

Syphilis may be accompanied by palmoplantar plaques and pulpitis.

Eczema

Eczema is often allergic to contact or to chronic irritation. The doctor will propose in case of doubt allergic eczema to perform skin allergic tests called patch tests

Psoriasis

In case of mycosis

Treatment with local antifungals for 3 weeks can produce good results, but it is sometimes necessary to use oral terbinafine for 4 to 8 weeks.

In case of syphilis

Syphilis is treated with antibiotics (penicillins) in intramuscular injections into the buttocks.

In case of eczema

In case of contact allergy, avoid contact with the allergen, which can aggravate the problem.

In case of occupational allergy, wearing gloves is recommended, but a work stoppage or even a professional reclassification is sometimes necessary.

Treatment of eczema passes by dermocorticoids

In case of psoriasis

Psoriasis usually treated with dermocorticoids, sometimes combined with vitamin D derivatives, in ointments. In case of resistance to treatment, the doctor may prescribe oral acitretine and / or puvatherapy
