Start with a Kitchen Purge

If you want to be successful at Keto, especially in the early days of doing the diet, you will want to start by purging your kitchen of all items that are not keto-friendly. The temptation is a significant problem when you first start Keto. When you have been eating a diet heavy in carbs, your body will crave them when denied them.

As such, go through your kitchen and eliminate all obvious carbs like white rice, pasta, bread, and flour. The next purge stage is to go through all of your processed foods, including boxed and frozen meals, sauce mixes, salad dressings, and more. Finally, get rid of all items with sugar, particularly those with added sugar.

If you do this process right, you will likely have very little left in your cupboards and refrigerator. That is okay. It just leaves you room to fill your home with keto-friendly foods and products.

Don’t Think You Have to Refill Your Whole Pantry Right Away.

Keto does not have to cost a high upfront. You can work with things you already have or that are relatively inexpensive.

For example, great sources of healthy fat include butter (unsalted), extra virgin olive oil, and coconut oil. While you may think you need all of these fat sources at once, you can focus on just one or two at first. If you already have olive oil on hand, use that. Have you got butter? Go for it! Coconut oil and other MCT products can be added later on so that you don’t break the budget.

Focus on getting the ingredients and items you will need in the first week or two of doing Keto. Then, you can keep your initial costs reasonable, and allow yourself to build up your pantry over time slowly.

Meal Plan

Meal planning goes along with how you shop for your keto items. To focus on just getting a week or two worth of ingredients, you need to know what you are making. Plan out your meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) for at least a week in advance. Planning will help you to stick to the diet, shop more efficiently, and feel less anxious or worried about managing your diet.

When you do this, meal planning, keep in mind that you do not have to make something different for every single meal. You may want to make a large batch of something for lunch or dinner one day, and then, use the leftovers for several days in a row. Leftovers is a perfectly acceptable way to do Keto and can make your early experience as easy and streamlined as possible.
